We are currently considering Santorini for a week and then a few days in Athens, but heard it can get ridiculously busy especially in cruise ship season. With return flights to Europe around $3k AUD each, and Santorini accom well over 2k for the week, we're wondering if this is this is really the best spot for us or are there other (cheaper!)
Nov 6, 2023 · Cons of planning a day trip to Santorini – It will cost you more than a day trip inside Crete; Over one day, you will have the bus then the ferry and same for the return, so you will only have something like 6 hours to really explore the island. Santorini is big and traffic is intense, so you can see only a few spots; It is a very crowded place.
Also Psarou is worth a stroll, it can be magnificent or Meh depending on the music. Psarou beach restaurant and Psarou mall with the lush gardens is worth a stroll, though just for window shopping for most of the people who can even afford Mykonos. The beach beds are VERY expensive, you can stay in the ones of the next beach bar.

We will likely do a boat tour on Milos (praying for no seasickness) and a wine tasting/ city tour on Santorini. I wanted to visit Ios for the young party scene but I think adding another
